I finally saw my first Quentin Tarantino movie. Why not start one of his with my favorite being in there? The opening shooting scene was a little startling at first with a shot to a horse's head and blood splattering every where. Thank goodness for all those Mythbuster episodes and I knew that bullets and blood does not happen that way! Lol. Once I got over that I was fine. I liked that there wasn't any sex in the film.
I enjoyed Christopher Waltz's character. I liked how he wanted to help Django find his wife and freedom because he had never given freedom to anyone. He was able to justify everything with what he did. He had compassion for the black community. I didn't think of Jamie Foxx at all watching him play Django. He was the character. Samuel L Jackson was just right in his role. Kerry Washington also did well.
I enjoyed having Leonardo play such an evil character. It was hard watching him force people fight against each other just because they are black. I love how he is with animals in movies. You can tell he is an animal person. I don't think he is much of a horse person, but I loved how gentle he was with the one that Django was riding.
There was a scene where Leonardo was getting pretty passionate and he slammed his hand onto the table. The glass broke and he ended up bleeding in real life, but never broke character. His cut even required to have stitches. I had to watch that scene a couple of times because it's so incredible of all that he gives in his acting. He probably improvised right on the spot to rub blood on Broomhilda's face and that just goes to show how much he gets into his character.
I was talking with my massage therapist about it before I watched it and she said it was her favorite Tarantino movie. The only thing that she had a hard time with it was that the N word was said too much. I don't think it was over the top especially after having watched Blazing Saddles.
I will probably end up buying it.
