I knew when I got a place of my own that I would have to get a cat. People think that you can just get a cat and that they're all a like. That is so not true. I looked online and went to several shelters. I found one in Iowa that I was willing to check out and my friend Karrie came with me on a road trip. When I got there, I was didn't feel the connection with the cat right away and he had some skin condition. I then visited several other homes there, but none of them was calling to me. I broke down that day because it was so hard to see all those cats needing a home.
The next day I decided I would try the Golden Valley Humane Society again. I needed a cat that weekend. I explained I was looking for an older cat and they showed me one. Immediately I was impressed with his size and big paws. He had the lion cut because his fur had been badly matted. He seemed pretty mellow and then when he turned over for a tummy rub that's when I knew that he was mine!
I brought him home and while he was checking out the room I called his name Henry that he had and he came running over and that's when I knew that he had to be kept Henry. It's a great cat name and fits his personality. I've discovered that he's the best cuddler when watching TV and can lay on his back for ever. He loves water. For a while I thought he just needed to be near me while getting ready in the morning, but I discovered it's the water that he's after!
During the "dark parts" of the summer when I was struggling he kept me focused in the present. I wanted to give up lots of times but I knew that I had to take care of Henry. He is also teaching me how to be closer to God because he follows me every where and has to get up on things to be close to me. He's not happy unless he can be. That taught me that I have to be like that with God.
I could not imagine life without Henry now.
Yay for Henry! Now bring on the pictures!!!
