Faces-St.Paul

My friend Anna called me up to go salsa dancing at Faces in St. Paul. She had met a friend at a salsa event at Champion. A past couple of weeks, I danced a little bit with a gay guy from class and he was interested in dancing more and I could tell he had experience dancing so I thought it would be fun and so he met us there. The place was very cool and trendy. There were a lot of Hispanics there. I talked to one who had been to Champion and I asked him about his salsa experience. He said he had been learning how to dance since he was five months old because his aunts in Mexico would take him around the room and dance with him. I wish I could have danced with him. He seemed like a lot of fun. Imagine having that kind of culture! He said it doesn't matter how well you dance as long as you have fun which leads me up to my next part of the evening.

The guy from class was going on about a lot of stuff. I really wanted to be dancing more, but I suffered through the talks. We danced a couple of times and he gave direction which was somewhat tolerable because we are getting used to each other. Then later, he said that he had done some competitions before and it's hard to dance with a beginner but he could teach me if I wanted. I was insulted, but didn't say so at the time. From there, the evening went down hill. I was talking with Anna about it afterwards and she had been in competitions too and she said he wasn't that good to be giving direction. Rich was so gracious about dancing with me and was a good lead. The only time we gave direction was when we were learning a different move.

Sunday afternoon, the guy from class texted and wanted to see if I wanted to go dancing. I told him that we couldn't continue a dancing relationship. He asked if it was something he said and I told him that he insulted me. He was very nice about it and offered not to go to the latin class. Anna was also happy that I ditched him for us. He was going to be cramping our style! I hope to try Faces again with a different experience. The only other compliant was that the dance floor is cement so it is hard on your body. It is surprising that different styles of dances floors can make a difference like that.

Champion is giving me all kinds of experiences to learn how to deal with men. :)
