My Sunday night church-Fusion-went away to Big Sandy this weekend. It's about two and a half hours north. The carpool ride was fun. I met two girls who knew Fusion well. Andrea helps teach at New Hope Church. If you think I'm quiet, Andrea is even quieter. She talks if she whispers, but she has a lot of good things to say. Kristen is another that I met and she reminded me of my friend Jill. She taught ballroom for a year and a half at Arthur Murray studios so we connected that way. Alex, she also rode with us and was pretty chatty.
Friday night consisted of service and worship. Pastor Bryan told about a Civil War battle that dealt with the phrase "retreat to advance." We as Christians need to retreat to advance so we can hear God in the busyness (spelling) of our lives. Saturday morning was spent in three hours of silence. I went out for a walk and it was good to be in the woods by the lake. Saturday afternoon I played volleyball. I hadn't remembered the last time I played. I was on a time with a bunch of tall guys. Kristen was on the other team and mocked them by saying "I don't care how tall you are." It's surprising how a ball can be intimidating. I finally got brave and started yelling, "got it!" Saturday night was hard. I got overcome in the service about the stress of office politics and just started crying. I felt guilty in not trusting God that things are going to be okay, but I know He is going to take care of everything.
I forgot to mention that I ran into someone that I was in a small group with six years ago at Wooddale. It was good to see him again. John is a band teacher up in Elk River. Sunday was good to get back home and Sunday night at church I was able to actually know names now. I was talking with a small group member Ian who hadn't gone on the retreat for a while. I found out he's interested in dance so he might come out sometime. I love the guys in my small group. They're good guys. It's nice to have no pressure and just be friends. There's so much more to write, but I need to get going for now. I'm so glad I have the day off!
